POSITION DUTIES
Provide network administration and maintenance for all Unix servers while maintaining integrity of the
operating systems. Maintain hardware and software for the system including configuration, networking
and installation.

•Perform server operating system, application software and hardware and upgrades.
•Build, configure and install new servers.
•Create, implement and maintain Unix Security guidelines.
•Create and maintain complex server directory and file security. Set up user logins and home
directories.
•Create and edit Shell and Perl scripts.
•Maintain production change control schedule and participate in change control.
•Work with vendors on email and network management system (SNMP) issues.
•Assist Messaging administrators on email issues such as returned mail and Business Contingency
Planning.
•Maintain Business Contingency Plan for Unix Environment
•Research and implement new hardware and software products for the Unix environment.
•Able to constructively work under stress and pressure when faced with high workloads and
deadlines.
•Possesses strong organizational and time management skills, driving tasks to completion.
•2 years Unix Administration experience mid to large size installations.
•Ability to install and configure Solaris.
•Strong knowledge of Visual Editor for writing and editing source code and modifying system
configuration files.
•Ability to identify and troubleshoot network and server performance related issues.
•Working knowledge of DNS, SNMP, FTP, SSH and SMTP.
•Ability to read and interpret shell and Perl scripts.
•Ability to assemble servers, install software packages and patches.
•Ability to operate a personal computer running Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
•Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications sufficient to produce emails, memos, spreadsheets and
reports.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
5+ years Unix Administration
MUST have very strong experience with at least 2 of the following Solaris Operating Systems: 5.6, 5.7,
5.8, 5.9 or Solaris 10
Strong experience creating and editing Shell and Perl scripts
Experience with Online Disk Suite and disk mirroring
SUN Certified System Administrator Certification VERY nice
POSITION NOTES

The IT Operations and Infrastructure department consists of Application Administration, Client
Technology Support, IT Computer Operations, Network Operations, Server Operations, and a
Networking and Operations department in the Detroit Regional Operations Center.
